FRPG6 Character Behavior Engine
![]() |
C haracters behave and react to stimulus which may be found in the behavior engine. This behavior engine helps create behavior styles for games and stories. This behavior engine takes into account 9 personality types¸ 3 mindsets¸ 9 stat archetypes¸ 9 virtues¸ and 9 vices. It can use the Dialogue Generator¸ Motivation Generator¸ and Character Communicator primarily.
It has a small character exploring game called 'Confront the Character' which can be used to explore characters and test tools.
I recommend having the Character Generator¸ Motivation Generator¸ and two 6 sided dice at a minimum. The Character Communicator¸ Dialogue Engine¸ and Body Language Generator can lend to adding interesting dialogue¸ action preference¸ and character reaction description.
This meant to aid or take the place of a Gamemaster (GM) for creating character behavior and actions. Behavior may vary by culture or region of the world.
This tables either suggest¸ or refer to four tables in the book. The keywords are meant to help trigger thoughtful and inspirational ideas. Its generic enough for any game or story genre characters.
8 pages: It's first page is the image shown on the cover thumbnail. The second is a BW title page. The third page is a table of contents and requirements to play¸ the fourth page is the introduction and behavior engine table¸ the fifth page is archetype and primary attribute tables¸ the sixth page is the stat archetype & virtue/vice tables ¸ the seventh page is explains the archetype details¸ and the seventh & eigth page has the instructions and an example of the using the behavior engine.
How do the 4 character engines fit together? In the first engine¸ the dialogue engine¸ 4 preferences were assigned to archetypes: discuss¸ do¸ feel¸ and think.
The four engines made focus on these four preferences.
discuss - dialogue engine
do - behavior engine
feel - emotional reaction engine
think - thinking engine
This behavior engine recommends having the Character Generator for personality or vice/virtue influence¸ the Motivation Generator for motive influence¸ the Character Communicator for situation archetype function suggestions¸ and the Dialogue Engine for dialogue suggestions. Optional is the Body Language Generator to add non-verbal body language to the conversation
