Character Thinking Engine
![]() |
Why do different types of characters decide or think differently? This system considers personality types and meaning for how characters may consciously decide analytically and intuitively.
Something happens in the story which basis means something from 'prior belief or intensity fear' leads to the decision 'What is your prior belief(s) that you are trying to confirm?' because the character needs to 'Confirm belief or fear'.
This is intended to be a paid upgrade to work with Thinking Generator archetypes¸ Character Reaction Engine¸ Emotional Reaction Generator¸ Character Mood-Emotion Generator¸ Body Language Generator¸ Dialogue Engine¸ Behavior Engine¸ and Character Communicator most directly.
The default mechanic and instruction is based on triggered reactions from keywords. However¸ 1d12 numbers are listed for your convenience if you prefer using random method instead.
This system shows analytical and intuitive brain thinking for 15 different archetypes: featuring doer¸ caregiver¸ skeptic¸ lone wolf¸ guardian¸ striver¸ seeker¸ faithful¸ mediator¸ shadow¸ stranger¸ darkness¸ body¸ mind¸ and soul. In addition¸ 12 meanings lead to thoughts based on needs which lead to decision question. Decision basis thought questions are cross reference with decision basis listed on the Thinking Generator: cost/benefit¸ utility¸ sufficient/generalize¸ duty/authority¸ deduce/link¸ brainstorming¸ define/exclude¸ identify/cause-effect¸ empathy/sympathy¸ prior belief/fear¸ assumptions¸ and groupthink/harmony/dissenting.
This is a character engine that is meant to aid or take the place of a Gamemaster (GM) for adding chracter decisions. It may also be used as a list of ideas.
The keywords are meant to help trigger thoughtful and inspirational ideas. Its generic enough for any genre.
10 pages: The main part of the book is 3 pages of introduction/charts¸ 1 pages of definitions & concepts¸ and 1 page of instructions & example. The cover and frontmatter is 5 pages.
How do the 4 character engines fit together? In the first engine¸ the dialogue engine¸ 4 preferences were assigned to archetypes: discuss¸ do¸ feel¸ and think.
The four engines made focus on these four preferences.
discuss - dialogue engine (is also in Char Mechanisms )
do - behavior engine (is also in Char Mechanisms )
feel - emotional reaction engine
think - thinking engine
This engine completes the final preference.
