Werewolf: The Apocalypse ist eine Rollenspiel aus der World of Darkness-Reihe von White Wolf. Die World of Darkness ist eine Welt¸ die sehr stark der Unseren ähnelt¸ aber doch in einigen Punkten starke Abweichungen aufweist. So bevölkern¸ unentdeckt von den Menschen¸ Magier¸ Geister¸ Feen¸ Vampire¸ Werwölfe und einige andere Fabelgestalten die World of Darkness (kurz WoD). Werewolf: The Apocalypse (kurz W:TA) beschäftigt sich¸ wie der Name unschwer bemuten lässt. mit den formwandelnden Bewohnern der WoD. Sie allein stehen zwischen Gaia¸ der Mutter Erde¸ und ihrer vollständigen Zersörung durch die Mächte des Wyrm. Sie sind die Kämpfer Gaias¸ vertrickt im Dickicht aus Wyld¸ dem erschaffenden Chaos¸ der fanatischen Ordnung des Weaver und Wyrm¸ der immerwährenden Zerstörung. Als die Erde nch jung und die Menschen noch rar waren¸ koexistierten diese drei Mächte¸ heute bekämpfen sie sich und es scheint¸ als s%auml;sse Wyrm am längsten Hebel. Wie es dazu kam¸ darüber gibt es viele vierschiedene Ansichten. Fest steht¸ daß seit diesem Tag der Übergang in die Geisterwelt¸ die Umbra nur noch den Formwandlern möglich ist. Neben den verschiedenen Gestalten einer der wenigen Vorteile¸ die die Garou im Kampf um Gaia zumindest teilweise auf ihrer Seite wissen. Die Stämme der Garou: Neben der Einteilung in die Geburtsform und der Klassifizierung nach den Mondphasen zum Zeitpunkt der Geburt ist den Wewöflen die Unterteilung in ihre Stämme am wichtigsten. Diese Organisationsstruktur hat sich seit einige Ewigkeiten bewährt und wird wohl beibehalten werden bis die Erde sich nicht mehr dreht.
