Birthright ist eine weitere Variante von AD&D ! AD&D-Regeln sind weitesgehend erhalten geblieben. TSR"s Birthright Kampagnenbox enthält einen Schlachtensimulator¸ der ein wenig an ein Kartenspiel erinnert. Einheiten kommen in Kartenform daher. Auf den Karten sind alle relevanten Spielwerte angegeben (ein eigenes System ohne AD&D-Anbindung) und der Einheitentyp ist abgebildet (z.B. Goblin-Bogenschützen). Die Grundbox enthält 122 Karten (menschliche und nichtmenschliche Völker)¸ es gibt eine weitere Box¸ die ein Seekampfsystem gleicher Machart beschreibt. Gespielt wird auf einem "Spielplan"¸ der ein Schlachtfeld zeigt. Es gibt Bereiche¸ die das Feldlager darstellen¸ in der Mitte prallen die Armeen aufeinander. Der Ausgang der Einzelgefechte (Karte gegen Karte) wird durch eine zufällig gezogene Karte (und einem daraus resultierenden Vergleich der Spielwerte) bestimmt. Ist sicherlich mehr Aufwand als einfach ein paar Zahlen zu addieren und einmal zu würfeln¸ aber es veranschaulicht die Vorgänge mehr. Und zusätzlich bekommt man die Birthright-Weltbeschreibung¸ die die meines Erachtens stimmungsvollste aller AD&D-Welten ist. Endlich mal keine Tolkien-Elfen¸ keine bunten Hollywood-Realms¸ sondern eher rustikale pseudo-europäische Regionen. --Dirk Remmecke Dank an Thomas Echelmeyer
